Patrick Zeller

Born in Chicago, Illinois, December 27, 1966.

Patrick Zeller graduated in 1990 from East Carolina University, in Greenville, North Carolina, with a BFA Degree in Communication Arts and Illustration.

Zeller began making freelance illustrations for the Washington Post in 1990 while living in his home town of Springfield, Virginia.  He now has 17 years experience working in newspapers, illustrating articles and making news-graphics.  "I much prefer editorial art over advertising, you don't have to sell the product, just communicate the story."  His career includes:  the Richmond Times-Dispatch in Virginia, the Charleston Post and Courier in South Carolina, and finally the San Antonio Express-News, where he worked for 13 years, ending his service in newspapers in 2007 to pursue a new career as a freelance illustrator living in San Antonio.

In recent years, after losing both his mother and sister to cancer, and his father to suicide in 2005, Zeller entered into the exciting world of long distance motorcycle travel.  Taking photographs along the way, his 8,000 mile solo trip to Vancouver, BC from San Antonio and back, provided him the necessary confidence to tackle Iran, along with 11 other Americans, on a 3,000 mile journey with MotoDiscovery in April, 2006.  "I've always had an interest in the Middle East ever since 1988 when I took a college course on the Palestinian/Israeli conflict."   Iran/Turkey was Zeller's first ever visit to the region.  Since then his motorcycle has taken him anywhere from Guadalajara, Mexico to Labrador, Canada and practically everywhere in between.
